Kenmore, NY -- Sept. 24, 2018 -- The community is invited to attend free wellness programs in October at the Mondello Wellness & Family Center located at Schofield Residence, 3333 Elmwood Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda. Emergency Preparedness Workshop will be held from 1:00 p.m. -- 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4. Learn about the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible. An instructor from the NY Citizens Preparedness Corps will also advise on how to develop an emergency plan. On Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 6:00 pm, Jeffrey Lackner, PsyD, a UB professor and health psychologist will discuss Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): Can you control it without drugs? Dr. Lackner will share how home-based self-management treatment of IBS can provide significant relief of a wide range of IBS symptoms. Dr. Lackner's 20-year research will show how people with even severe IBS symptoms can achieve long term benefits within a brief period of time without side effects. "Controlling Diabetes" will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. Learn about self-management strategies for diabetes, a complex chronic condition that requires daily care and management. This workshop is offered by the American Diabetes Assoc. WNY office. On Thurs. Oct. 18 at 1:00 pm, Fitness guru Richard Derwald will present "People with Arthritis Can Exercise." Mr. Derwald will demonstrate low-impact moves to increase strength and flexibility. Guests should wear sneakers and loose, comfortable clothing.
