Ken-Ton Bee: Schofield Nursing Residence Facility receives over $5 million in grant money

Schofield received the Direct Caregiver Flexibility grant which was over $4 million. The money will support Schofield’s partnership with the Western New York Women’s Foundation and the University at Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center which provides paid training and certification programs for their certified nursing assistants, personal care assistants, and their home health aides.
“The DCF grants represent an investment in our community. It will help us expand the direct care workforce while increasing access to quality care for those who need it most,” said Caroline Hourihan, Vice President of Home, Community-Based Services and Education at Schofield Care.
The DCF grant also establishes a Support Hub that connects trainees with wraparound resources to address barriers to employment, including food, transportation, childcare, housing, legal and mental health support, as well as career navigation and connections to education and employment opportunities.
“We’re investing in the success of our direct care workforce by connecting individuals with supportive resources and opportunities for career growth,” said Hourihan.
Schofield was also awarded nearly $1 million for the CAPABLE grant, which stands for Community Aging in Place – Advancing Better Living for Elders. The evidence-based program pairs a registered nurse and an occupational therapist to work with older adults in their homes, helping them identify goals, improve safety and independence, and remain in their homes for as long as possible.
