The Schofield Residence, 3333 Elmwood Avenue in Kenmore, officially began its observation of one hundred years of service on February 18, 2010 with a party for their Nursing Facility residents and families. Their Century Party featured 10 theme tables decorated to represent the cultural history of each of Schofield's 10 decades of service. Teams of employees and volunteers put the tables, from the 1910's to the 2000's, together. "This celebration begins a series of events to mark Schofield's anniversary," said Laura Mondello, Schofield's Director of Community Relations & Volunteer Services. "We started our work when the Wheel Chair Guild of Buffalo was formed on May 1, 1910. From that beginning, we've grown into a not-for-profit organization providing care to over 700 individuals in their homes, in our Adult Day Health Care Program and in our Nursing Facility." Residents voted on their favorite decade display at the conclusion of the party and chose the 1930's table put together by Schofield's Finance department. The party also featured music by "The Friends of Harmony" barbershop quartet and a display of information and memorabilia from Schofield's history archives. "We welcome the community to join us throughout 2010 as we celebrate the Legacy of Caring left to us by our founder, Dr. Jennie Schofield and the many community volunteers and employees whose tireless work contributed to our success," said Ms. Mondello. "Look for a variety of programs, including a Health & Wellness Fair in May, and a history update each month on our website, beginning in March, featuring one decade of Schofield's 100 year history." Founded in 1910, the Schofield Residence is a non-profit, community-based organization offering health care and supportive services for frail elderly and disabled individuals. Schofield operates a Nursing Facility in the Town of Tonawanda, a Long Term Home Health Care Program serving Erie County, an Adult Day Health Care Program in Buffalo, and an affiliated Licensed Home Health Care Agency serving Erie and Niagara counties.
