Workforce Development Spotlight: Emily Campese

September is National Workforce Development Month and we’re spotlighting the success of employees in advancing their careers.

Emily Campese has earned several promotions and certifications in recent years. She started at The GreenFields as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in 2019. Emily completed the nurse aid training program while earning her associate degree at Niagara County Community College.

When COVID hit Western New York in the spring of 2020, she performed testing, tracking and reporting. “I also helped with resident activities for a short time, doing FaceTime [video calls] when the residents were not able to see their families,” Emily said.

Over time, she took on new duties at The GreenFields campus in Lancaster, serving as a Unit Clerk at GreenField Health & Rehabilitation Center, then joining the administration as a coordinator. “I helped develop outdoor family visits during lockdown and all other necessary administrative duties,” she recalled.

She’s made an intentional effort to gain experience and credentials. “I've always wanted to do more and more for the residents and by wanting to do that I knew that I would need to move up and adjust my career to a higher level,” Emily explained. “Through Lineage, I have completed a lot of hands-on training and learning through experience. There has been a lot of flexibility within my roles where I've taken on new projects that have helped me learn clinically and non-clinically.”

In October 2025, Emily applied for the position of Director of Activities at Schofield Residence, which is also a part of the Lineage Care Group with The GreenFields. She received the promotion and transferred to the skilled nursing, long-term care and rehabilitation center in Kenmore.

Through the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals, Emily earned her ADC (Activity Director Certified) status.

She loves the opportunities that being Director of Activities at Schofield gives her to make a difference in residents' daily lives. “Activities are a huge part of each day and I strive to create a warm and meaningful environment for the residents,” Emily said. “Activities are the fun part of what we do, and everyone should feel enjoyment when participating.”

Earlier this year, Emily joined Lineage’s High-Potential (HiPo) Staff Leadership Development Program. It is a proactive, system-wide initiative designed to identify, develop, and retain internal talent by preparing high-performing staff members for future leadership roles.

Emily continues to learn and grow as a professional both through formal programs and interactions with others. “I've worked with a lot of amazing people who have each taught me something different,” she said. “The residents and families have taught me so much over the years. I've learned that we all have the power to change the outcome of anyone's day in a small way, especially the population we care for.”

She’s excited about the development of her career and the role she has reached. “Looking back almost eight years ago, I would have never imagined I would be in the position I am now” Emily said. “Every step along the way has been an achievement.”
